Our Story: How Empower 2 Lift Began

Empower 2 Lift was founded by three passionate leaders who recognized a pressing gap in access and inclusion within the world of powerlifting. Too often, individuals with disabilities and those facing financial hardship are excluded from athletic spaces due to lack of resources, accessibility, and community support. This non-profit was born out of a shared commitment to break down those barriers—and to ensure that strength sports are truly for everyone.

Kaelyn Hilgartner, an adaptive fitness coach, certified para powerlifting coach, and founder of Power Legion Training, has spent years working with clients of all ages and abilities. Her deep-rooted belief in accessible coaching drove her to create pathways for underserved athletes to engage meaningfully in powerlifting.

Tabetha Telford, a para powerlifting athlete, dedicated social worker, and proud mom, brings lived experience, advocacy, and fierce determination to the organization. She understands first-hand the challenges that marginalized athletes face and uses her voice to champion equity, empowerment, and change within her community.

Douglas Chan, a seasoned powerlifting coach for both able-bodied and para athletes, offers meticulous coaching methods, deep technical knowledge, and a generous heart. He frequently donates his time to ensure that athletes with disabilities and low-income backgrounds have a place to train, grow, and thrive in the sport.

Together, Kaelyn, Tabetha, and Doug launched Empower 2 Lift to create a space where all athletes and coaches—regardless of ability or financial means—have access to the support, community, and tools they need to rise.
